GROUNDING AND LIGHTNING PROTECTION - READING

For the correct interpretation of the following text it is necessary to know that in Brazil the system of poteção against lightning is denominated SPDA (Sistema de Proteção Contra Descargas Atmosféricas) with literal translation: System of Protection Against Atmospheric Discharges.

Grounding is the only system that protects people against electric shocks and consists of creating a path of low electrical resistance so that, in case of failures, the electric current does not travel the body of the human being.

Contrary to popular belief, grounding is a complex system and, if done inefficiently, can be life-threatening. Currently the concept of grounding has evolved into the concept of equipotentialisation, in which all the masses, systems and installations of a building are interconnected.

Most people are unaware of the importance of SPDA, better known as lightning rods. SPDA is the acronym for Atmospheric Discharge Protection System and these systems are important for any constructions as they provide a safe way for a radius to go straight to the ground, thereby minimizing the risk of material damage and life-saving.
